High efficiency cold rooms at low cost helps in keeping the stock fresh

The term cold room refers to a chamber that is used to chill or freeze foodstuffs like vegetables, fruits, meats and fishes. A cold room is also a room in which constant low temperature is maintained (as for refrigeration). The temperatures of the cold rooms range from between -70 degree centigrade to 10 degree centigrade. There are companies like ALBA & Ziebaq who manufacture cold rooms.

  • Specification of a Cold Room:

The specifications of Cold Room are as follows:

  1. Insulation: the insulation has to be CFC Free and it should be made of Rigid Injected Polyurethane /PIR
  2. Density: the density of the cold room has to be 42kg/m³.
  3. Thickness: the thickness of the cold rooms should be 80 mm (+0 temp rooms), 80mm (-0 temp rooms.
  4. Cladding: the cladding of the rooms should be 06 mm PVC, 0.5mm GI or 304 SS anti-bacterial.
  5. Fire Rating: the cold rooms have to meet the fire redundancy requirements based on FM approval 4880.
  6. Construction: the Panels are joined by two systems like Male-Female, Cam-Lock or using both.
  7. Flooring: there are two types of flooring in cold rooms. Panel flooring: 80 mm insulated panels with 1.5 mm Checkered Aluminum on top. Floorless: 50mm insulation foam with 100 mm concrete slab on the top or plywood.
  8. Refrigerant: the refrigerant that is used in cold rooms is called R404.
  9. Electrical Rating: the electrical rating of the cold room should be 380v/3ph.
  10. Lighting: the lighting of the cold rooms should be Heavy Duty, Water Proof, Low Energy & Florescent Lighting T5.
  11. Installation: there are two installation systems in cold rooms. Panels: the Pre-Cut panels are installed as per site dimensions & requirements of the clients. Condensing Units & Evaporators: the Pre-Wired condensing units and evaporators are installed or made to suit site conditions.
  • Advantages of Owning Chiller Cold Rooms

The following are the advantages of owning chiller cold rooms:

  1. Energy Saving: Condensed and decent locking Double/ Single cold room functions without any open or exposed cording along with temperature alarm, these features help save a lot of energy.
  2. Easy Availability: the various parts of the cold room like doors, panels, floors and shelves are easily available with the manufacturers.
  3. Flexibility in Sizes: the manufacturers can build cold rooms as per the requirements and needs of their clients in various sizes.
  4. Lesser in Cost: there is a misconception that cold rooms are expensive, but a large cold room costs less than buying multiple double door refrigerators.

To conclude we can say that cold rooms are very much required by us to keep our stock fresh for a longer period of time.

What Is Cold Storage & How Does Cold Storage Work?

Cold storage is a facility that primarily stores food items that are short-lived and highly likely to get spoilt under normal conditions. These may include fruits, vegetables, fish, meat etc. These food items are stored under optimum temperature(primarily low) and humid environment as required for individual items. Almost all cold storage rooms are designed such that these properties are pre-configured based on what is being stored. Some cold rooms are made such that these properties are adjustable. Construction and Working of a Cold Storage Plant A cold-storage facility works on a refrigeration system which helps maintain an adequate temperature and environment as per the specifications of each item being stored. These are the main components of a cold storage room: Compressor — It is the main component that runs the cold room. It is the only device that needs the energy to run. The compressor consumes almost all the power in a cold room. It is used ...

What is laboratory furniture made of?

Laboratory furniture refers to the specialized furniture used in laboratories for different purposes such as research, experiments, and testing. This type of furniture is designed to meet specific requirements such as durability, chemical resistance, and functionality, among others. Laboratory furniture is made from different materials that provide unique properties, and this article discusses the most common materials used in making laboratory furniture.   Steel Stainless  steel is one of the most common materials used in laboratory furniture due to its durability, resistance to corrosion, and easy to clean surface. Stainless steel furniture is used in different laboratory settings, including chemical, biological, and medical labs, and it can be used to make countertops, cabinets, shelving units, and sinks, among others. The alloy composition of stainless steel varies, but the most common ones are 304, 316, and 316L, which have different corrosion resistance propertie...

What is life science instrumentation?

Life science instrumentation refers to the tools and equipment used to study biological systems and processes, from molecules and cells to tissues and organisms. These instruments are designed to provide researchers with accurate and precise measurements of biological phenomena, allowing them to explore and understand complex biological systems. Some examples of life science instrumentation include: 1.Microscopes: These instruments use a combination of lenses and lighting to magnify and visualize cells and tissues at high resolutions. They are used in a variety of life science fields, including cell biology, pathology, and microbiology. 2.Spectrophotometers: These instruments are used to measure the absorption and transmission of light by biological samples. They are commonly used to measure the concentration of DNA, RNA, and proteins. 3.Flow cytometers: These instruments analyze cells in a liquid suspension as they pass through a laser beam. They can measure various character...
