Various types of Laboratory Furniture

When it comes to a laboratory set up, you have to plan many things like what type of furniture or equipment etc you will need for the laboratory.

You need to consider a lot of features before planning your laboratory furniture such as customizations, specific requirements and criteria for regulation.

A long lasting laboratory furniture is a must whether you are making this set up in the new laboratory or renovating the old one. This decision will decide a lot about the future success in the functioning of your laboratory.

There are many types of laboratories and each one of them are useful for various purposes. So it’s very important to understand the needs, risks, precautions etc associated with the lab and only after that the designing of laboratory or laboratory furniture should be started.

Wet Laboratories Vs Dry Laboratories:

Basically there are two types of labs, wet labs and dry labs.

Wet laboratories are those labs where chemicals, Drugs and other similar materials related  research and experiments are conducted. Mainly the experiments done in these labs are associated with liquid solutions. Built-in sinks, stations for eye washing, chemical resistant surfaces, showers etc are extremely necessary parts in the designing of wet laboratories.

Dry Laboratories, on the other hand, are used when the experiments are based on dry chemicals in small volumes. Electronic equipment are the intrinsic parts of these labs, because here it’s necessary to conduct mathematical models or other computer produced tests.

Now let’s discuss about various types of laboratory furniture available and their uses;

Laboratory benches and Work Benches: These are in the form of long tables and experiments are conducted on them. Sometimes these benches are built with the racks for storage purposes.

Lab case works: These are must for every laboratory and they are mainly used for storage purposes. Make sure that the material used in designing them is a strong and durable one like steel.

Lab cabinets: There are various types of cabinets. The purpose of them is to store chemicals, equipment and other stuff.

Lab chairs and stools: These are obviously necessary to sit down and work in the lab properly because standing for a long time can be really tiring.

Emergency showers: These are must in any emergency cases for the safety purposes of the workers in the laboratory.

Lab carts: These are used to move stuff from one workstation to another.

Accessories: Lab sinks, task lights, services panels etc are extremely necessary accessories for a Laboratory.

What is laboratory furniture made of?

Laboratory furniture refers to the specialized furniture used in laboratories for different purposes such as research, experiments, and testing. This type of furniture is designed to meet specific requirements such as durability, chemical resistance, and functionality, among others. Laboratory furniture is made from different materials that provide unique properties, and this article discusses the most common materials used in making laboratory furniture.   Steel Stainless  steel is one of the most common materials used in laboratory furniture due to its durability, resistance to corrosion, and easy to clean surface. Stainless steel furniture is used in different laboratory settings, including chemical, biological, and medical labs, and it can be used to make countertops, cabinets, shelving units, and sinks, among others. The alloy composition of stainless steel varies, but the most common ones are 304, 316, and 316L, which have different corrosion resistance propertie...

What are the types of laboratory benches?

Laboratory benches are essential equipment in any laboratory. They provide a sturdy and stable surface for conducting experiments, analyzing samples, and carrying out other laboratory activities. There are several types of laboratory benches, each designed to suit different laboratory needs. Some of the common types of laboratory benches include: Standard laboratory bench: This is the most basic type of laboratory bench. It is a simple, flat work surface that can accommodate a wide range of laboratory activities. Adjustable laboratory bench: This type of bench allows the user to adjust the height of the work surface to suit their needs. It is particularly useful for tasks that require a specific working height. Chemical resistant laboratory bench: This type of bench is designed to resist chemical spills and other corrosive substances. It is typically made of materials such as epoxy resin or stainless steel. Fume hood laboratory bench: A fume hood laboratory bench is designed ...

What Is Cold Storage & How Does Cold Storage Work?

Cold storage is a facility that primarily stores food items that are short-lived and highly likely to get spoilt under normal conditions. These may include fruits, vegetables, fish, meat etc. These food items are stored under optimum temperature(primarily low) and humid environment as required for individual items. Almost all cold storage rooms are designed such that these properties are pre-configured based on what is being stored. Some cold rooms are made such that these properties are adjustable. Construction and Working of a Cold Storage Plant A cold-storage facility works on a refrigeration system which helps maintain an adequate temperature and environment as per the specifications of each item being stored. These are the main components of a cold storage room: Compressor — It is the main component that runs the cold room. It is the only device that needs the energy to run. The compressor consumes almost all the power in a cold room. It is used ...
